Blue in Green: Yochi Negev
A series of colorful drawings with pens and markers on paper, dealing with grasses, feelings, and emotions.
At the heart of Yochi Negev’s creations are the herbs she grows in her garden, which she uses to describe her inner landscape. After the traumatic fire that consumed her studio located in her garden, along with all its contents and artworks, her gardening and her work in her new studio became one for her. The same principles of intensive, repetitive, and meditative work in the garden also guide her drawing process: a drawing begins with a leaf of an herb that Negev picked from her garden. She records its shape on paper repeatedly, layering the leaf with multiple strokes of pens and markers as she goes along. At the end of the process, the dense linearity and rhythm on paper transform the work into a vibrant, pulsating fabric of life. This essentially creates a living, dynamic botanical definition that reflects the occurrences within Negev’s soul. This life-infusing movement connects the herb leaves to the movements in Negev’s life – the creation brings forth feelings and emotions from her inner world, illustrating the internal forces that drive them.
