The World According to Carmella: Carmella Otanezoser
Before us is a photo-walking journal, based on impressions from Carmella Otanezoser’s daily stroll along the Tel Aviv promenade and her walks during travels abroad. Carmella captures series full of humor and sensitivity to color using her cell phone camera: people walking with umbrellas in the summer, holding balloons, dragging suitcases in the city, or simply crossing the street. The images mainly relate to what we tend to pass by without noticing. They were photographed while walking, and it is interesting to see that most of the subjects are also in motion.
The presentation of the works in pairs and quartets, sometimes connected by themes and sometimes by color similarity, creates a lively mosaic that emphasizes the way Carmella views the world.
The joy of life emanating from the works does not seek to conceal, ignore, or suppress reality. Instead, it is part of a deliberate mechanism that Carmella chose to activate during photography, aimed at creating an island of sanity.
